Unimog Road-Railer recovers classic Locomotive

South Cave Tractors Ltd, the Mercedes-Benz Unimog dealer, celebrating its 50^th anniversary in 2021, was recently called upon to assist with the extraction of an aging diesel shunter locomotive from a rail shed in East Yorkshire. The loco had recently become the property of the Yorkshire Wolds Railway (YWR), established in 2008 to restore a section of the Malton and Driffield railway junction as a heritage attraction. The East Yorkshire based Unimog experts operate very close by and were the logical choice to shunt the train from its resting place and out to a suitable loading point for road transport to its new home.

The beautiful Yorkshire Wolds are currently earmarked as the UK’s next ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ (AONB) with fine country houses, medieval villages and rolling countryside, it is well worth a visit this Summer and very soon the Yorkshire Wolds Railway will have another fascinating attraction to add to its growing list.
