The luxury Unimog is based on the highly off-road-capable Unimog U4023, featuring the traditional portal axles and a flexible swan-neck chassis. Combined with selectable all-wheel drive and longitudinal and differential locks on both axles, it ensures the necessary traction and control even in challenging terrain.
The standard four-cylinder engine has been replaced by a Mercedes-Benz six-cylinder OM 936 delivering 220 kW (300 hp). This modification provides higher performance, optimized transmission tuning, and increased driving comfort.
The double cab offers space for up to four people. A MirrorCam system has also been installed: digital cameras and monitors replace traditional exterior mirrors, providing improved all-round visibility and enhanced safety.
The Unimog’s striking exterior includes matte grey paintwork, aluminum beadlock wheels, and a distinctive lighting concept with modern LED headlights. Inside the cab, premium leather surfaces, ergonomic seats with coloured stitching, leather floor mats, and LED lighting emphasize the vehicle’s premium character.
An eye catching and dramatic way to celebrate 80 years of the worlds greatest all-terrain truck.

With Unimog, safety goes much farther than with many other working vehicles. It is built into the very design of the machine, from it’s short frontal dimensions and large glass area offering improved visibility, to it’s ABS braking and load balance controls and even its high vibration protection.
Now, with the addition of GSR (European General Safety Regulations) the Unimog can offer a host of additional safety systems from monitors around the vehicle to detect unseen pedestrians and other road users, to traffic sign monitors and attention assist systems which can learn driver patterns to detect fatigue.
The Unimog has an interface at which an alcohol testing device can be installed in the vehicle if required. If alcohol is detected during a test, it is automatically linked to the vehicle’s immobiliser and will prevent starting.

Its unique ability to operate seamlessly on both road and rail gives it a clear practical and cost-effective advantage in modern rail operations.
By travelling via the highway to a nearby rail access point, the Unimog avoids occupying the line for long periods—unlike traditional ‘rail-bound’ vehicles that must reach worksites from depots or sidings entirely on track. This flexibility helps minimise disruption to regular rail traffic and maximise efficiency.
Once on the rails, the Unimog’s own tyres provide the drive, delivering impressive traction compared to conventional steel wheels. The retractable rail gear serves as guidance, with the steering locked during on-track movements allowing the driver to focus on operations. Shunter models can tow up to 800 tonnes and provide braking force for up to 52 axles.
For added functionality, industry-standard rail couplings can be fitted, enabling wagon movements as well as train and tram recovery tasks.
Combined with powerful onboard hydraulics, the Unimog is ideally suited for re-railing operations. When paired with a wide range of demountable implements, it becomes one of the most adaptable support vehicles on the network—offering exceptional capability at a fraction of the cost of a traditional locomotive shunter or dedicated tool platform.
SCT-RAIL is the South Cave Tractors brand for delivering both Unimog and battery electric robot shunters into the rail sector. Find out more at sct-rail.co.uk

Regular replacement of the brake air dryer canister is essential for keeping your vehicle’s air system in top condition. The canister should be replaced every 12 months.
Staying on top of this simple maintenance task helps prevent moisture contamination within the brake air system. The result? Longer life for critical brake components, reduced downtime, and lower overall service costs.
For Unimog variants with a high storage pressure air system (18 bar), it’s especially important to use the correct specification. Always ensure the replacement canister is either a genuine unit or a compatible 18 bar version—NB: most standard truck canisters are only rated up to 10 bar and are not suitable.
We stock a full range of air dryer canisters to suit different chassis numbers, so you can be confident you’re using the right part for the job.
Important: On 18 bar systems, there is also an additional one-way valve. It’s recommended to replace this at the same time as the air dryer canister to maintain system performance.
Finally, remember that removed granulate canisters are classified as special waste due to oil residue. They must be disposed of in the same way as used oil filters, in line with environmental regulations.
